“Pump up the volume!”

And pump up the volume they did.

Once more, UP ALCHEMES proved that it is not only home to the brightest minds in the university but to its most remarkable talents as well. Two of its home-grown bands — This Band and Capacities — bested eight other contenders for the championship in the recently concluded Acoustic Jammeng’g organized by the UP Engineering Society.

Held last September 26, the competition themed “Audacity: Pump up the volume!” showcased the musical talents of different bands from different organizations in the UP College of Engineering. The competition is a part of the kick-off party for the benefit of the children under the care of DSWD.

This Band’s rendition of a Maroon 5 medley brought the house down, placing them at the top of the competition. Through the years, the group has been a tough contender in several university-wide band competitions, garnering critical acclaim for their originality and skill. This Band’s Acoustic Jammeng’g line up included Kim Gines and Eugene Paolo Gabo in the vocals, Ramon Paolo Quintero in the keyboard, Jomari Magadan in the guitar, Stewart Go Roa in the bass and Paolo Santos in the percussions.

Capacities’ Ed Sheeran medley might be the last performance of the night but it did not stop them from placing third in the competition. The group might still be new but it’s already building a reputation for itself. Capacities band members include Chin Conde, Nicole Saputil, Ana Ruiz, Dane Dimarucut, Bobbi Doloiras and Alvin Luna.

Bagging awards and distinctions in talent competitions such as this is nothing new to UP ALCHEMES. It is the heart that Alchemists put in their endeavors that makes them standout and allows them to make the best music not only to entertain their audience but to make impact on the lives of the event’s beneficiaries.
