Eight days after its 17th anniversary, UP ALCHEMES was recognized as one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations in the country. This celebrated award is given to the top ten youth organizations which help their communities through their service projects. Attended by distinguished individuals including Sen. Bam Aquino, PCOO Sec. Sonny Coloma, Office of Civil Defense Head Executive Assistant Aika Robredo, and National Youth Commission Chairperson Gio Tingson, the awarding ceremony was held on the 21st of January at the Malacañan Palace as culmination of the TAYO Finals Week.

For its 13th year, 362 projects were screened by TAYO Foundation. These were narrowed down to 19 finalists, each falling under one of the five categories: Education and Technology; Health, Nutrition, and Well-being; Environment, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Climate Change Adaptation; Livelihood and Entrepreneurship; and Culture and the Arts and Peace and Human Development. Research Fair, UP ALCHEMES’ entry project, was one of the four finalists under the Education and Technology category.

For the Finals Week, each organization was represented by one member who participated in various activities prepared by the foundation and presented their project entry in front of the judges. UP ALCHEMES sent Ian Pe Benito, the organization’s current president and the entry’s Project Manager last year. Ian focused on Research Fair being an avenue for young Filipinos to nurture their knowledge and skills in science and technology, “An academic organization composed of undergraduate chemical engineering students, UP ALCHEMES believes that our nation should raise the bar of science and technology to be at par with the global level.” This idea was acknowledged by the judges, bridging UP ALCHEMES to the prestigious TAYO Award.

Aside from this, UP ALCHEMES was also given the People’s Choice Award for Research Fair, the plaque for being the Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Category Winner of GenTAYOPH, and another People’s Choice Award for ChEer UP Pinoy which is UP ALCHEMES’ photo entry for GenTAYOPH.
